The Broken Throat
Tiiu Helinä, Kap Kap, Tundramatics, Kanerva and Samuli Putro
The broken throat
of my younger years
the need to gloat
over such hidden fears
and hidden thoughts
to which these songs submit
what time has wrought
but still cannot admit

I’ve had my time
in a silent space
now I will sing
before I am replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced

A child is born
and it doesn’t take long
for it’s first cry
to turn into song
and then it dies
but lets not be sad
lets just rejoice
in these songs we’ve had

Such time was spent
not in disgrace
with one last yelp
I will be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced

Your middle years
are just the middle eight
until another chorus
clarifies your fate
the hidden fears
might still retaliate
I will tempt fate, I will tempt fate
I will tempt fate
I will tempt fate, I will tempt fate
I will tempt fate

The broken throat
has not yet healed
in a different land
on a different field
we can try again
we can try too hard
we can fly too fast
we can stretch too far

With humble breath
one cannot save face
I’ve had my time
I will be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced

The father dies
and while we mourn
somewhere another child
is born
nothing will last
everything fails
against this truth
our songs will flail

So let’s make peace
with our final place
life has been good
now I’ll be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced
I will be replaced, I will be replaced
I will be replaced
