I Made A Decision
There’s violence in each breath
a trial in each guess
indecisive but as always well-defined

bits of paper crammed with lists
headlights high-lighting the mist
invitations which I may some day decline

I’ll sign those contracts, someday disappear
the world will not notice my very best year
my thoughts will be published, with or without revision
I made a decision

That was the year I never once picked up my pen
and a breakthrough album from R.E.M.
the future was a dream I’d long let go

Promised myself hit singles, full of glee and terror
knowing every act of genius begins with a single error
the spotlight beckoned with its chilling glow

A helpless stroll through the warm summer sleet
and I met all the people I wanted to meet
thought: someday I’ll be published, spawning great derision
I made a decision

It’s fiscal, and all commerce
will eventually coerce
don’t resist, what would be the point

models of civility and grandeur
with all your force but still not sure
uncertain, even when clairvoyant

I’ll sign those contracts, someday disappear
the world will not notice my very best year
my thoughts will be published, with or without revision
I made a decision

I’m despondent, I’m obsessed
with schemes involving you undressed
but impotence takes the edge off desire

Every day it seems the same
endless puns about my name
it’s alright, sometimes I just feel tired

A helpless stroll through the warm summer sleet
and I met all the people I wanted to meet
thought: someday I’ll be published,
spawning great derision
I made a decision
